Re-encoded lossy AAC to lossy dOPUS.... SMH.

Re-encoding a low bit-rate audio file to a lower bit-rate audio file just to save 4mb is just plain stupid.
It's just reducing the fidelity even more.
Only a beginner would do something like that.

I doubt that it only matters to me. Others will probably chime in when they see the comments.
BTW, if a noob encoder does something as dumb as that the odds are they don't encode very well also.

You are grumbling against someone's generous share and doing nothing about it.  You expect anyone to respect that?  Think again.

Download what you want stop embarrassing yourself.

I guess I'll jump in here. I agree with the anon that encoding poor quality audio to another codec is dumb.
They didn't even mention opus in the title and opus doesn't play nice on quite a bit of hardware unlike aac.
I respect that anon's opinion more than yours.
I don't respect your defense of poor choices a new encoder made.
Are you the person that encoded this?

Great post. You probably are right about the releaser being the one defending the release. He probably can't take criticism and thinks he did a fantastic job. He didn't even mention that it is 8 bit either. Maybe he will learn by his mistakes and improve with time. I stick with groups that have been around for quite awhile and properly label their releases.

I agree people should just download what they want and move on.  The nice thing about AT is no one asks anyone for their advice, much as some people desperately wish someone wanted theirs.

Another nice thing about AT is that comments here are harmless as they won't have a chance to annoy the people who do the actual anime sharing.

So cluck on, you hens.

Opus is all the rage these days for shits and giggles & sheep getting on the bandwagon.

The only advantage Opus has is at 96kbps and lower over AAC. Who even listens to music etc at that low of a bit-rate?
Opus isn't a magical codec like some people think and it will probably fade away before too long in anime releases. And like the other person said it is not as compatible as AAC with hardware.

To my ears, Opus sounds better than the leading implementations of AAC (FhG, FDK & Apple) at 128kbps. Beyond that, Opus is transparent to me, but others also report Opus sounding better than AAC at higher bitrates. Note that I've seen many AAC encodes using worse implementations, probably because the licensing around the best implementations is problematic (e.g. Apple needs iTunes, FDK can't readily be distributed in binaries, etc), so many AAC encodes are probably worse.
96kbps Opus actually sounds very good to me - not transparent, but I don't notice it unless I'm paying particular attention. Note that, with voice, you can get away with lower bitrates though - I've done 64kbps Opus on anime episodes and it generally sounds fine.

I only see Opus adoption becoming more widespread. It's already reasonably well supported, and with the push behind AV1, it's likely to become more popular as it's the preferred pairing with AV1.

Opus isn't as widely supported as AAC, but then, neither is HEVC, and AAC isn't as widely supported as MP3. If you stuck to the lowest common denominator in hardware all the time, you'd be dragging along 20+ year old technologies forever.

It's definitely not some revolutionary codec, but it's a welcome improvement. Also, not being patent encumbered, like AAC, is certainly a good thing in my book.
